Excursions on Land & Sea

ABC Coastal Excursions can host up to 6 guests on multi-day adventure cruises. Departing from Sitka, Alaska and cruising the coastal areas around Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof Islands, adventure begins aboard the Silver Lady and continues with opportunities for daily excursions and activities. While we have a 4 day minimum for any of our trips, our most popular trip is the 5 day Classic Cruise with custom activities and destinations. Guests can choose to add additional days if desired. No matter the length of your trip, we always ensure there is plenty of time for our guests to enjoy excursions on land and sea.

Kayaking

Kayaks have been used traditionally, for hunting and gathering, by the Indigenous people of coastal Alaska for thousands of years. An incredibly seaworthy vessel, paddlers could travel long distances in relatively short time, maximizing opportunities for success when seeking out hunting grounds or forage areas. Today, traveling by kayak and paddle is still one of the best ways to explore Southeast Alaska - and the Silver Lady carries enough kayaks to outfit every guest. While kayaking, you’ll be able to paddle hidden inlets, circumnavigate small islands and rocky outcroppings, get closer to wildlife, and to just feel more connected to this amazing place.

Beachcombing

Our namesake, the ABC Islands, are Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof. These islands are home to hundreds of pristine beaches, ranging in their makeup from white sand, black volcanic sand, lava rock and even a mix of all three. We make sure to build in time to share some of our favorite places with guests. Beachcombing is a wonder for all ages. Guests can find countless creatures in tidepools, walk miles of coastline with amazing views, spot hundreds of shells and even find treasures from across the ocean like a vintage Japanese glass ball. Rare, and hard to spot, glass balls are the the ultimate find in Alaska beachcombing and your chance of success is greater in the early spring on outer coast sandy beaches.

 Hiking

There are a number of lovely, and well maintained, trails on Baranof Island that are easily accessible from downtown Sitka. For those looking for an adventure by land on their first day in town, a Sitka trail can be the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Ranging from easy strolls through old growth forest like the Totem Trail in Sitka National Historical Park, to more difficult like the Gavan Hill to Harbor Mountain Trail, there is something for everyone when looking to get around by foot and see Alaska. For more information on Sitka Trails, check out Sitka Trail Works and choose an adventure by foot. While out on the Silver Lady, we will also have time to explore more remote areas with guests who like to spend some time off the beaten path. For these land-based adventures, ABC Coastal Excursions holds a special use permit from the USFS and the State of Alaska to take guests onto state and national forest lands in and around the “ABC Islands” (Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof).

 Fishing

Captain Brian has spent a lifetime fishing the waters around the ABC Islands and guests are provided with all fishing gear and onboard processing. Fishing licenses are required and the fee is included in your booking - we can print your license for you while onboard. The ADF&G Sitka Area Sport Fishing Report is a good place to get information about current regulations in effect and species specific information. Salmon season typically runs May through September, Lingcod season changes a bit every year but typically opens sometime in May and runs through November and rockfish can be caught year round. We also lease a halibut charter permit so guests can fish for this highly sought after species. Depending on our location and season, we may also set shrimp and crab pots during our trips so guests can experience the absolute freshest seafood while aboard. Be sure to check current regulations before planning your fishing trip.
